What is IRMAA?

IRMAA is a surcharge added to your Medicare Part B and Part D premiums. It affects beneficiaries who are at higher income levels.

If affected, you would receive a notice from Social Security telling you the amount.

The determination is made yearly and is based on the MAGI from tax reuturns 2 years back.

If you no longer are at that income level due to a life changing event such as retirement, you can appeal the charge by submitting form ssa-44 to Social Security.
