Change of Permanent Address
Moving can have an effect on your Medicare coverage.
If you are on original Medicare and a supplement, the supplement coverage will stay with you. There may be a change in the premium if you move to a different state. If you have a standalone drug plan you would have to change that if you have moved out of the service area of your current plan.
With a Medicare Advantage plan, if you move out of the plans' service area you would have to change your plan. There are certain rules that apply depending on when the insrance carrier was notified.
You would also qualify for a guarentee issue if you wanted to change to a supplement.
You have 2 months to change your plan from when the carried was notified. You do not have to call the current insurance company, you can simply enroll in a new plan and your current plan would be discontinued. If you do notify the insurance company, the will usually send you a letter and disenroll you by the end of the month. You would then be on Original Medicare if you do not immediately enroll in an advantage plan.
